The camera pans over Diego de la Vega's ranch in Juarez Mexico. It is very quiet and very serene. The camera zooms in to a window where noise from a television is heard. We cut to inside the living room. In front of us is a sofa with Diego de la Vega sitting in it. His back is to us and he is enveloped in shadows. The lone light comes from the televison which is playing last Saturday night's showdown. We see the interchange between the two athletes and finally the announcer can be heard from the tv, "Counters into the backslide ... 1 ... 2 .... 3! Noah Hanson retains!" DDV grabs the remote which is sitting on top of a table next to the sofa. He rewinds the taping to where we previously saw it and it plays again showing Noah Hanson pin and win. He continues to rewind the dvd over and over and over. While doing so he reaches for a bottle of tequila and takes a big swig from it. Next to the bottle of tequila and remote is a mannequin's head where his mask lays.
Diego: What happens when a man realizes he has done everything within him and it isn't enough? Has this finally happened to me? Is their definitively someone better than me every time I step into that ring?
De la Vega pauses the dvd at the exact moment that Hanson arm is raised and in his other arm is the television title. He takes another sip of the tequila before speaking
Diego: I told you last week Noah Hanson that I would push and push and push you to your limits and that you would find yourself wondering if you had what it took to put me down. I was wrong. Me da asco a decirte eso ... It makes my skin crawl to say it out loud but you were with me on ever punch, on every kick, for every move I had you had a counter. For every counter I had you had a move. It was as if I was wrestling a reflection. So what does this mean? Once again the powers at be have decided I deserve one more chance at your television championship. One more chance to avenge now the two losses you have put on my record.
Diego takes the remote and rewinds it to the very beginning of the match where the introductions are being done. He freezes it on an image of himself walking into the ring
Diego: Before last Showdown entering that ring I was confident. I was brimming with confidence. I felt I had the strength of ten men. It turns out you had the strength of 11. So there is one question left to ask. Is it possible for Diego de la Vega to defeat Noah Hanson? Do I have what it takes to beat the unbeatable. I've already had two matches with you and twice you have come out victorious. I can tell you two things for certain.
First, for the first time in my career stepping into that ring I will be afraid. I am afraid that I don't have what it takes. I'm afraid that you're simply better than me. But if you think that's going to be a disadvantage you're wrong. Fear just might be the greatest motivator in the world. Training can only take you so far. The fans can only push you so far. Desire can only help you so much. Everybody has a breaking point ... and I am at my breaking point now. Have you seen what happens when someone is backed into a corner? When someone is pushed right to the edge? They either crack or they push back with strength, with brawn, with desire that they never knew existed. Noah you're the ultimate test for my skills as a wrestler.
Secondly, and more importantly I NEED to beat you Noah Hanson. I need to pin your shoulders. I need to hear your hand slap the mat submitting. Because if I don't beat you this Saturday then nothing else in my career will ever matter. If I lose no matter how high I climb up the ladder ... I'll always be one rung short. No matter how far I reach for that brass ring ... I'll always be a fingertip away. I can't go through my career like that. I can't live my life like that. Si eso pasa voy a estar en el enfierno. If that happens, I'll be trapped in hell. This Saturday at showdown I have no other choice but to give my life in that ring. Your a man of great talent and I am a man of great honor. Two men will walk into that ring. Only one will be able to walk out. Twice i've let my family down, my faith down, my fans down and myself down. I either become the next Television Champion .... or Diego de la Vega dies on Saturday.
Diego goes to grab the tequila bottle but stops right before he takes another sip. He puts the bottle back down tipping it over as it dribbles empty. He grabs his luchador mask and places it on his head. He plays the dvd recording once more and walks away as the television echoes, " Countered with a backslide .... 1 .... 2 .....3! Noah Hanson retains!"
